Who Knows the Streets as Well as the Homeless? Promoting Personal and Community Action through Photovoice
Description:
Men and women living at a Michigan shelter photographed their everyday life as a means to document their challenges, promote dialog through group discussion about their photographs, and reach policymakers and the public about issues of concern to homeless people. This approach used photovoice, a participatory action research method based on health promotion principles and numerous theoretical constraints. The authors offer recommendations to health promotion practitioners implementing photovoice projects with various types of populations.
