Use of Mental Health Services Among Disaster Survivors
Description:
This article reviews research about mental health service use after natural disasters and terrorist attacks. Despite an increase in psychiatric problems, service utilization is low, even among those who had been receiving treatment before the disaster. Although most disasters occur in developing nations, most utilization data are associated with the September 11 attacks, Hurricane Katrina, and a fireworks incident in the Netherlands.
