People in recovery also need to play and have fun.
Motivation to change can occur in many different ways. Some people become motivated to change through negative experiences, while others recognize the positive benefits of change. However, without the proper encouragement, the desire may disappear and is often replaced with feelings of failure and hopelessness.

Remember that change takes time. While people are working toward change, they also have other needs that must be fulfilled. Try suggesting activities that encourage positive change, such as social activities where they can meet new people and regain a sense of community. Also remember to work with people at their own pace. Often, relapse is a part of the change process.
