We cannot expect people to put an end to behaviors that have helped them to cope and survive, no matter how harmful or ineffective they may be, unless we offer them clear, reasonable and manageable alternatives.
Getting motivated to change - a belief, lifestyle, or even an eating habit - is often very difficult. It is important to understand that change takes time and everyone is going to have a unique journey. As providers, there are many ways that we can support consumers to find reasons to change and develop strategies that work.
