You’re a hospital social worker responsible for discharge planning. Your patient just had surgery for cancer, resulting in a large incision held together with staples. He has been instructed to rest and told how to care for the incision. The hospital protocol says he’s ready to go home, but he has no home to go to. The local shelters are closed during the day, so he says he’ll just stay on his normal park bench every day until the shelters open. It’s winter and the daily temperatures are below freezing.
