"Sylvia Frumkin" Has a Baby: A Case Study for Policymakers
Description:
"Sylvia Frumkin" was a pseudonym given to a 32-year-old woman with chronic mental illness. This article presents the case of a patient who is similar to Ms. Frumkin, who is also a mother. Issues raised by the case in three areas are discussed including: (1) service delivery system issues; (2) clinical treatment issues; and (3) family support issues. The authors conclude that adequate cost-effective services cannot be developed until the needs of families are identified and until data on effective ways to meet their needs are provided. (Authors)
