Using Rims Ii To Estimate the Economic Impact of Supportive Housing
Description:
In August 2004, the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) contracted with Bay Area Economics (BAE) to develop a guide for using RIMS II (Regional Industrial Multiplier System II) to estimate the economic impact of developing supportive housing. CSH plans to distribute this guide to supportive housing advocates and developers around the country to use as a tool for developing political and financial support for supportive housing projects. Local governments may also use the document as a tool in policy-making decisions.
The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) already publishes a comprehensive handbook to RIMS II. However, the handbook is not geared towards the layperson, and contains more information than necessary for CSH’s goals. In contrast, this guide aims to be more user-friendly, and specifically addresses the needs of supportive housing advocates. It also provides more detailed instructions on using the RIMS II Viewer software. After reading this guide as an introduction to RIMS II, users can then use the BEA materials to explore other applications of the model. (CSH)
