Recovery: The Lived Experience of Rehabilitation

This article explains the differences between recovery and rehabilitation for people with serious mental illnesses. According to the author, through the recovery process consumers become active and responsible participants in their own rehabilitation. The experiences of recovery as lived by a physically disabled man and a psychiatrically disabled woman are discussed. Recommendations for creating rehabilitation environments that facilitate the recovery process are also given (author).
