In this guide, the authors outline Personal Assistance in Community Existence (PACE), a method developed by the authors to assist people with mental illness in recovery. The authors review the principles of recovery which have emerged from the latest research, and illustrate how the Empowerment Model of recovery provides both those giving and receiving assistance with an optimistic vision of their future. The authors assert that this guide dispels the false and damaging belief that people labeled with mental illness need to lead lives of endless desperation and broken dreams. (HRC)
