Housing Opportunities for Persons With Aids (hopwa)
Description:
This program provides housing assistance and supportive services for low-income persons with HIV/AIDS and their families. Grants are provided by formula allocations to states and metropolitan areas with the highest incidence of AIDS, and by selection through a national competition of projects proposed by state and local governments and nonprofit organizations. Program funds may be used for an array of housing, social services, program planning, and development costs. Eligible activities include, but are not limited to, the acquisition, rehabilitation, or new construction of housing units; costs for the operation and maintenance of facilities and community residencies; rental assistance; and short-term payments to prevent homelessness. The program may also support health care, mental health services, drug and alcohol abuse treatment and counseling, intensive care, nutritional services, case management, assistance with daily living, housing information, placement assistance, and other services.
