Personally, I think it is more of a "chicken or egg" issue. Perhaps mental health issues are more likely to lead to homelessness and then homelessness becomes more likely to exacerbate existing mental health issues. When you think about it, mental illness is typically not identified until it begins to have an impact on daily functioning. Being homeless has a huge impact on daily functioning.

I notice that much of the research on homelessness focuses on mental health being a cause of homelessness. I am beginning to think that homelessness or the threat of homelessness leads to mental health issues.
