The SAMHSA FASD Center for Excellence is a federally-funded initiative devoted to preventing and addressing Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD). FASD is an umbrella term describing the range of effects that can occur in an individual whose mother drank alcohol during pregnancy.

These effects may include physical, mental, behavioral, and/or learning disabilities. Because of the cognitive difficulties associated with FASD, individuals with these disorders often encounter other life problems such as homelessness, substance abuse, unemployment, and involvement with the criminal justice system.

The FASD Center for Excellence provides resources and information on FASD to expand the knowledge base and promote best practices in both prevention and treatment. Our Information Resource Center is available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST. We provide general science-based information on FASD and assist callers in locating local and national resources available in the FASD community. Our toll-free telephone number is 866-STOPFAS (786-7327), or individuals may make inquiries via our Website at www.fasdcenter.samhsa.gov

Our Website contains many resources, including downloadable FASD Fact Sheets and other materials, online curricula, and a community calendar of events related to FASD. The site also operates as a portal to both our Information Resource Center and our Training Department through the Contact Us and Training Request links at the top of each Web page.
