The Huairou Commission, National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty, National Congress of Neighborhood Women/GROOTS International, and NeighborWorks America cordially invite you to attend a roundtable discussion with local and global leaders in urban and rural struggles to obtain adequate housing for women. The National Center on Family Homelessness offers free online trainings for PEACH, an innovative curriculum that teaches young children about good nutrition, physical activity, and how to deal with the stress of being homeless. New training dates include: - Thursday, September 24, 9:30am EST - Wednesday, October 7, 2:00pm EST Each hour-long training will help familiarize you with the curriculum materials, discuss tips for success, and offer you the opportunity to ask questions about incorporating PEACH into your local program.
Tobacco-Free for Recovery: Assisting Mental Health Consumers with Tobacco Cessation

Hosted by the Smoking Cessation Leadership Center and Rx for Change this three-hour online training will provide valuable information on key terms and definitions related to tobacco use, why it is important to quit smoking, the different types of tobacco products and why they are addictive, what helps people to quit smoking, and how to help people quit. Participants will be invited to ask questions, provide comments, and participate in the activities and discussion that will take place during the training. While this curriculum is tailored to meet the needs of mental health peer counselors, it is a helpful training tool for any provider or advocate interested in learning more about mental health and smoking cessation.

Homeless Veteran Summit: Ending Homelessness Among Veterans within Five Years

The Department of Veterans Affairs has pledged to combat veteran homelessness by establishing a national "zero tolerance" policy for veterans falling into homelessness. This initiative has transformed the landscape of homeless veterans’ programs and services. This summit will promote inter-agency collaboration and community partnerships for eradicating homelessness among veterans and their families, and serve as the starting point for implementing VA’s five year plan to end veteran homelessness.

Children, Poverty, and Homelessness: from Research to Policy, from Policy to Practice

This conference will be an opportunity for professionals from all sides of the issue - researchers, policymakers, service providers, and others - to share ideas, best practices, and to engage in dialogue with one another. ICP researches the causes of family homelessness, the demographics of this growing population, the conditions that make it difficult for homeless families to become self-sufficient, and the programs that are most effective in helping them transition out of poverty. ICP works with programs and partner organizations across the U.S. to conduct and disseminate this research in order to improve services and influence public policy.
