Description: This book is a 15-year field journal of homeless women's survival stories. The stories tell why and how these women became and remain homeless, as well as reflecting community and system responses and needs. The book also describes those women who are at risk of becoming homeless and innovative programs to prevent homelessness among this population. The author contends that solutions are at hand that do not involve more government-funded shelters, but rather foster self-sufficient living and working: raising self-esteem and community spirit through Community Land Trusts, bartering, sweat equity affordability, cottage/new light industry, and repopulation of dying towns (author).
